Body found along Pasco train tracks

A dead man was found Thursday night along railroad tracks near the Amtrak station in east Pasco.

Pasco police Cpl. Jason Miller said the man appeared to be about 40 years old and may have been a transient. The Franklin County coroner was called to the scene shortly after a Burlington Northern train operator called in at 8:26 p.m. after seeing a body on the ground.

Police said it appeared the man had been dead one to two hours. There were reports the man may have been hit by a train.

The body was found about 100 yards from the Amtrak depot and several tracks beyond the Amtrak line.

Officials closed tracks several minutes ahead of the scheduled 9:15 p.m. arrival of an Amtrak train. The train arrived 15 minutes late, but an Amtrak worker said the delay was caused by passenger connections.
