WALLA WALLA -- With just over a month left in their contract and the possibility that thousands of county residents will lose their ability to check out material from the city's library at the start of next year, a new contract is on the table between the city and the Rural Library District.
City and district officials recently announced they are now reviewing a $245,000 reimbursement contract proposed for 2012.
Earlier this year, city officials asked the district for $293,000 as a reimbursement for providing library cards and services to county residents.
The district countered with a $200,000 offer, with district officials wanting credit for providing services through the new Plaza Library branch that opened this summer.
District board members will review and possibly vote on the $245,000 proposal next week in Burbank at what had previously been set up as a workshop, but now will include a full meeting where board members can vote and public testimony can be given.
"It would make more sense to have the special meeting in Walla Walla, but everything is tentative right now," said Punkey Adams of the Rural Library District.
The meeting will be Dec. 7 at the district's Burbank Library, 875 Lake Road, with the time to be determined and posted on the district's website at wwrurallibrary.com.
