KENNEWICK -- A record-breaking crowd started their Thanksgiving Day with a brisk 5K run and walk this morning at the eighth annual Turkey Trot.
Officials with the Benton-Franklin Chapter of the Ame-rican Red Cross estimated 3,700 people turned out for the fundraising event at Columbia Park in Kennewick.
Temperatures were around 37 degrees and the sun was shining for the partipants along the Columbia River.
It was a stark contrast to last year's frigid temperatures and slippery conditions, said executive director Jeanne Jelke.
Early estimates show $60,000 was raised at the event, which has grown each year since it started in 2004 with 600 people.
The money is used to support local Red Cross services.
The overall winner in the male division was Andrew Gonzales, 21, who has won the past four years, Jelke said. Gonzales is from the Tri-Cities, but is attending school in Pullman.
Kristi Houk, 27, of Port Orchard, was the overall female winner.
Winners in each age group won a pumpkin pie donated by Costco.
