Tri-Tech classroom briefly locked down

A teacher on Tuesday briefly had to lock down a classroom at the Tri-Tech Skills Center in Kennewick after a domestic dispute spilled into the school.

A 17-year-old student came to Tri-Tech with her 16-year-old boyfriend and their 9-month-old baby, said Kennewick police Sgt. Ken Lattin in a news release.

The boyfriend followed the girl into the school, and they were reportedly arguing. A teacher locked down the classroom where the girl apparently tried to seek refuge.

Her boyfriend was escorted off the Tri-Tech grounds by the principal.

But when he returned at 1:40 p.m., he was arrested by Officer Chris Buroker, the school resource officer from nearby Kamiakin High.

Lattin said the teen was upset and beat his head against the barrier in the rear of the patrol car, so he was taken to Kennewick General Hospital to be checked for injuries.

He was taken to the Benton Franklin Juvenile Detention Center in Kennewick on investigation of trespassing.

The boyfriend is a student at Kennewick High and was placed on emergency expulsion, Lattin said.
