Sunnyside student Briana Martinez received one of 10 United Farm Workers "¡Si se puede!" scholarships at a ceremony Friday.
A total of $9,500 was awarded this year to 10 students throughout California and the Northwest.
Martinez is the daughter of union members Jose and Bertha Martinez.
Students were selected to receive the scholarships based on their outstanding academic achievement and exemplary volunteer and community service.
"We hope that these scholarships help these students, who have demonstrated with their intelligence and their dedication to their communities, to be individuals interested in obtaining an education for the advancement of their communities," said Jorge Valenzuela, United Farm Workers' regional director.
