A $1,500 donation raised by a Vancouver veterans group will help support costs for families of fallen soldiers traveling to the annual Time of Remembrance event in West Richland.
The event -- now in its fifth year -- brings together families from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska and Hawaii who have lost loved ones in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
Local volunteers will organize private activities for the families Sept. 24, followed by a public memorial service on Sept. 25 in Flat Top Park.
Organizer Shirley Schmunk said this year, the Combat Veterans International Chapter 9 from Vancouver, Wash., had a bike ride fundraiser to help support Time of Remembrance.
