Ex-Tri-Citian dies during agility test in Arizona

A former Kennewick man who recently realized his dream of becoming a police officer in Arizona died while taking the physical agility test.

Bart Matthew Child, 29, collapsed Aug. 18 during a 1 1/2-mile run and was pronounced dead at Sierra Vista Regional Health Center in Sierra Vista, according to a website dedicated to fallen police officers.

The site said he died of a heart attack, but Army officials are investigating what happened.

Child served with the Department of Army Civilian Police for four years, and transferred two months ago to be a police officer at Fort Huachuca Army Base.

He was born in Idaho Falls and had lived in Kennewick for 28 years before moving with his wife, Isabel, and three children to Arizona.

Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home in Kennewick is in charge of arrangements.
