Shockley Road in south Richland will be closed for four days next week while crews remove the roadway to correct drainage issues.
The project will close the road from Tuesday through Friday between Keene Road and Fuji Way, according to the city of Richland.
The road will reopen Aug. 27-28 with a gravel surface, so motorists will have to use extra caution, then close again daily from Aug. 29 to Sept. 3 for completion.
The city's contractor, Inland Asphalt, is going to remove the roadway because it has deficient base materials and drainage issues, the city said.

A detour route will send traffic to the Keene Road-Brantingham Street intersection, down Westcliffe Boulevard and Chardonnay Drive. The Brantingham Road intersection will be controlled with traffic devices and monitored during the detour.
Also, in the first part of the week, Richland crews will be working at the Keene-Kennedy intersection to activate the traffic signal. That project will create some temporary lane closures at Kennewick and Duportail Street.
