1 dead, 1 arrested in Hermiston crash

Oregon State Police are investigating an early Sunday single vehicle fatality on Highway 730 about 11 miles east of Hermiston.

According to state patrol Trooper Jarred Little, around 7:04 a.m. Sunday, police were dispatched to a reported traffic crash on Highway 730 near milepost 196.

Emergency responders found an overturned 1997 Pontiac Gran Prix about 30 yards off the highway, and one person was pronounced dead at the scene with a second person seriously injured.

The driver of the car, Acosta Bonzalo, 32, of Entiat, had minor injuries and was taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston.

He later was arrested and booked into the Umatilla County jail on charges of manslaughter in the first degree, criminally negligent homicide, assault in the second degree, driving under the influence of intoxicants and reckless driving.

Passenger Jose E. Ramirez Chavarria, 23, from Entiat, died at the scene. Another passenger, Martin Ramirez, 26, from Entiat, was transported by air ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland with serious injuries, police reported.
