HANFORD -- Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced that David Huizenga will serve as the Department of Energy's acting assistant secretary for environmental management starting today.
Ines Triay, former assistant secretary for environmental management, left the post to deal with a family health issue.
Chu told Department of Energy employees in a memo that Huizenga has more than 25 years experience working for the department in various leadership, management and technical roles.
"I am confident that Dave has the technical, management and leadership skills required ... to improve the way we do business," Chu said in the memo.
Most recently Huizenga was the National Nuclear Security Administration's principal assistant deputy administrator for defense nuclear nonproliferation, Chu said.
He began his career in 1985 as a research engineer at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland.
