Counseling offered after boy's death

Counseling was available at a Milton-Freewater school Wednesday to help students and community members mourn the loss of a 12-year-old boy.

Christian Lebron, a fifth-grader at Ferndale Elementary, died at his home Saturday in a "freak accident while using his pellet gun," school district officials said in a statement on their website.

School staff said Christian had a "very sweet spirit," consistent respect for others, excellent behavior and liked school.

"Christian certainly connected with the activities in the Ferndale Science Club. His love for learning about science while participating in the club will especially be remembered by staff. We will miss Christian," the statement said.

A safe room was open at Ferndale Elementary to provide a place for students and community members to come together and make cards for the family.

Educational Services District-trained crisis team members provided grief counseling.
