LDS members to deliver donations to fire victims

Members of the Kennewick and Kennewick East stakes of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints collected numerous household items to donate to the 145 White Swan residents who lost their homes to fire Feb. 12.

A chimney fire started a house fire and gale force winds quickly carried the flames across 235 acres, destroying 33 homes.

Today, volunteers will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Don Pratt Construction warehouse in Kennewick, where the donations are stored, to transfer the furniture, appliances and other household items into a truck to deliver them to the Toppenish armory.

Colleen Reimer, a director with the Yakama Nation Tribal administrative office, is coordinating the donations with the victims. Families will be allowed to come and take whatever they need, free of charge.
