Mid-Columbians fell ill to contaminated sprouts

Residents in Benton, Grant and Walla Walla counties are among those who fell ill in an outbreak of salmonella linked to contaminated sprouts.

The Washington State Health Department said two people were hospitalized in the outbreak in late May and early June that affected at least nine people in Eastern Washington.

The Department of Health is warning people not to eat alfalfa sprouts or spicy sprouts labeled "Evergreen Produce." The sprouts were sold in grocery stores and also distributed in large packages to restaurants.
