Nuclear report says Richland plant was safe

The Columbia Generating Station was operated safely in 2010, according to the annual assessment by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

It plans a public meeting a 6 p.m. Tuesday to answer questions about the nuclear power plant's performance. No formal presentation is planned at the meeting at 3000 George Washington Way, Richland.

All inspection findings in 2010 had "very low safety significance," according to the NRC. As a result, the Energy Northwest nuclear power plant near Richland will be on the inspection schedule this year for plants that have demonstrated safe operations.
