WALLA WALLA -- The Walla Walla Coroner's Office has ruled that a woman found dead along the shore of the Snake River accidentally drowned.
The body of Helen T. Lawrence of Burbank was found by people fishing from a boat around 1:45 p.m. Friday.
Allison Barnett, Walla Walla County deputy coroner, said after an autopsy Saturday that Lawrence, 73, had drowned in freshwater, and the death had been ruled accidental.
It's unknown how or where Lawrence entered the river, authorities said.
Lawrence lived near the Snake River shoreline off of Sunset Drive, according to a public records search.
Lawrence was found in shallow water near Strawberry Island between Ice Harbor Dam and Hood River Park in Walla Walla County.
Columbia Basin Dive Rescue brought the body to shore Friday and searched the water for any evidence.
Toxicology tests will be performed, which is standard, Barnett said. It could be four weeks before the coroner's office receives the results.
The Walla Walla County Sheriff's Office said it will not be releasing any information about the incident until Monday.
