Speed may be factor in motorcycle accident

A 20-year-old motorcyclist may have been speeding Saturday afternoon when he hit a sedan turning in front of him on Steptoe Street.

Joshua Gibbs of Richland was northbound on Steptoe at 2:51 p.m. when an older-model Lexus pulled out from Arrowhead Avenue, according to a Kennewick police news release.

The Lexus, driven by Jana Page, 58, of Kennewick, was turning west onto Steptoe when it was hit. Though the Lexus pulled out in front of the motorcycle, police "think speed is going to be a major factor in that collision," said Sgt. Dave Blosser.

He could not say how fast the motorcycle was traveling in the 40 mph zone, adding that investigators are reconstructing the crash scene.

Gibbs was reportedly thrown from his motorcycle after it collided with the Lexus.

Kennewick and Richland police closed the northbound lanes of Steptoe from Gage Boulevard for about two hours.

Gibbs is in stable condition at Kennewick General Hospital. He suffered a broken leg and possibly a broken wrist, the police report said.
