So far, the only Washington State University students who don't have to pay for parking are those attending the Richland campus.
That, however, may change this year.
Officials on a parking task force for the Richland campus last month proposed selling parking permits for up to $230 per year or $30 a month to students and staff of the Richland campus starting this fall.
The fees would go toward campus security personnel and parking lot maintenance, WSU documents show.

That proposal ran into opposition at a forum on campus Wednesday. About 120 people -- both staff and students -- showed up and mostly were against the proposed prices.
The task force that came up with the proposal will now work on a new fee structure.
A forum to discuss the revised fees is planned at 4:30 p.m. March 1 in the East Building Auditorium at WSU Tri-Cities.
