RICHLAND -- A Pasco man accidentally shot himself in the leg Monday night while waiting to pick up his child at Badger Mountain Elementary School in Richland, police said.
Michael D. Pomrankey, 40, was in satisfactory condition at Kadlec Regional Medical Center on Tuesday after reportedly shooting himself in the right thigh.
Officers were called at 8:40 p.m. to the school parking lot where they found Pomrankey sitting in his pickup being helped by an off-duty firefighter.
Officers found a loaded .40-caliber semi-automatic pistol in his truck.

Pomrankey told officers he was waiting to pick up his child from a school function. He said he started to get out of his truck and realized that his pistol was between the seats.
He grabbed the pistol to move it to the driver's door pocket when it went off, hitting him in the leg, said police.
The case has been sent to the city attorney's office to review for possible charges.
