Kennewick photographer John Clement sees the world much differently than most, especially the beauty of the Northwest's drylands.

His long-awaited, coffee table-sized book, Northwest Drylands Seasons, now is available at Hastings bookstores and wineries in Benton City and Walla Walla.

The book, a collection of images he captured during the past 30 years, takes viewers on an eyecandy journey through four seasons of landscape photography. His scenes stretch from the Cascade Mountains in the west to the Blue Mountains in the east.

Included are photos Clement took while visiting Russia and China in 2009.

"These are some of my most favorite photographs," Clement said. "The book was originally supposed to have twice the number of images, but it got too expensive so I had to cut it in half, which means I just might have to publish a second volume some day."

The 116-page photo essay also includes narrative by Clement's longtime friend and writer, Richard D. Scheuerman of Seattle, who gives readers a history lesson on Clement's career in photography.

Hardbound copies of the book sell for $39.95 with softback copies for $29.95.

"I'm also having some limited editions made up that will be leather-bound with an Old World look," Clement said. "And some of those will also be available with a wooden storage case."

The limited edition books will sell from $350 to $650.

A portion of the proceeds from the limited editions will be donated to Clement's favorite nonprofit, Young Life, an outreach ministry for high school students.

"The Tri-Cities has been very good (to) me and my photography, and it makes me feel good when I can give something back by helping organizations like Young Life or the Boys and Girls Club," he said.

Clement's book has been in the planning stages for more than a decade. His photographs hang in public and private collections across the world, including the Seahawks stadium in Seattle.
