Pasco airport director still in serious condition

The director of the Tri-Cities Airport remained in serious condition in the intensive care unit of a Seattle hospital Wednesday.

Jim Morasch, 68, of Pasco, suffered numerous broken bones in a head-on crash that killed a Richland man.

Rafael Santiago Cruz, 36, apparently lost control of his pickup on some black ice on Taylor Flats Road, crossed the center lane and struck Morasch's Acura sedan.

Santiago Cruz, an agricultural laborer who has lived in the Tri-Cities for 10 years, died at the scene.

Morasch was flown to Harborview Medical Center from Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland and remained in the ICU.

A journal entry on a CaringBridge website -- a site that lets patients and their family post updates from the hospital -- said they still were in "stabilizing mode" and the doctors have said they have to take things one hour at a time.
