MLK Jr. bell-ringing ceremony set today
The 20th annual Tri-Cities Martin Luther King Jr. bell-ringing ceremony is set for noon today at the King statue and Byron Gjerde Center on the Columbia Basin College Pasco campus.
The keynote speaker will be Shirley Long, manager of Lockheed Martin's Application Development & Maintenance Solutions. CBC President Richard Cummins will deliver the welcoming address and the MLK Spirit Award winner will be announced. RSC-AmeriCorps will have activities for kids after the ceremony and refreshments will be served.

COLLEGE PLACE -- Benjamin Rodriguez, a Walla Walla physician, will be the featured speaker when Walla Walla University celebrates the life of Martin Luther King Jr. today.
The free public event on the university's main campus will feature Rodriguez speaking about the impact King had on Rodriguez's life -- both as a Puerto Rican and as a doctor.
The school's annual observance begins at 11 a.m. at the Walla Walla University Church at Fourth Street and Bade.
Rodriguez, a longtime resident of the Walla Walla Valley, received his medical education at Cornell Medical College in New York and did his internal medicine residency program at Roosevelt Hospital in New York.
