PASCO -- Chunks of concrete littered the southbound lanes of Highway 395 under the Court Street overpass Friday night after a semi-truck hauling an excavator hit it.
The lanes were blocked until Department of Transportation snowplows cleared the larger debris from the outside lane so traffic could squeeze past.
Three other vehicles were damaged by running over pieces of concrete or getting hit by the flying debris.
Trooper Dave Bond of the Washington State Patrol said that the driver of the semi-truck would be cited for carrying a load over the legal height. DOT engineers are assessing the structural damage to the overpass girders.

The trailer carrying the excavator was folded in the center and touched the pavement from the force of the impact with the concrete structure. The excavator bucket's hydraulic ram also appeared bent.
