A national missing child alert program has joined the social networking trend.
Amber Alert bulletins can now be received on Facebook and shared by Facebook users. Fifty-three new Amber Alert pages were created -- users can sign up for state-specific pages simply by hitting "like" -- and alerts will show up through the "news feed" feature.
Washington's Amber Alert page can be found at www.facebook.com/AMBERalert.
Thursday's Facebook announcement was made the day before the 15th anniversary of the abduction and murder of 9-year-old Amber Hagerman, a 9-year-old Texas girl abducted and murdered in 1996 who is the namesake of the national Amber Alert Program, officials said.
