The National Weather Service has issued an air stagnation advisory through 10 a.m. Wednesday for the Tri-Cities.
A high pressure weather system has resulted in minimal mixing of air and increased pollution, according to the weather service. However, a weather system that is expected to arrive late tonight could bring a wintry mix of precipitation that may improve air quality by Wednesday afternoon.
Smoke from outdoor burning, wood stoves and fireplaces builds up when cold air is trapped near the ground.
