RICHLAND -- A dog died in a residential fire at a Richland duplex Friday night.
Half of a duplex in the 1300 block of Haupt Avenue caught on fire around 5 p.m.
Fire crews were able to contain the fire in that portion of the duplex, said Battalion Chief Ted Ricci of the Richland Fire Department.
The unit was heavily damaged by smoke.

One dog died in the fire, but no humans were injured, Ricci said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, he said.
Benton County Fire District 4, Kennewick Fire Department, Hanford Fire Department and Pasco Fire Department assisted with extinguishing the fire.
