New Kennewick officer to be sworn in Monday

KENNEWICK -- Kennewick police will be adding a new officer to its force Monday.

Officer Jose "Joe" Santoy, a Prosser native who grew up in Grandview, will be sworn in at 8:30 a.m. by Kennewick Police Chief Ken Hohenberg.

Santoy graduated from the University of Washington in 2006 with a bachelor's degree in law and justice.

He worked as a community corrections officer in Renton with an emphasis on gang members and started his career with the Bellevue Police Department in May 2008.

Santoy was "highly thought of" by Bellevue officers and was described as an officer who is "engaged, (has) a strong work ethic and enjoys helping others," officials said.

The new officer is said to enjoy patrol work and proactively investigating gang crime. His wife is a teacher in Grandview.
