OTHELLO -- A two-car accident Thursday morning on Highway 26 west of Othello injured six people and killed one horse, the Washington State Patrol reported.

The accident occurred about 8:30 a.m. when a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu crossed the center line and broadsided a pickup pulling a horse trailer.

The Malibu ended up on its side in the middle of the highway after the crash. The pickup and trailer rolled onto their tops, coming to rest in the ditch.

The driver of the pickup, Jason A. Stewart, 35, of Royal City, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Othello Community Hospital. One of the two horses he was hauling had to be euthanized at the scene.

The driver of the Malibu, Xu P. Huo, 29, of Pullman, also was taken to Othello Community Hospital with a broken femur, the WSP said.

Two of Huo's passengers, Wei Fan, 28, and Yanbin Bai, 27, were flown to Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane with head injuries.

Two other passengers, Bo Han, 27, and an unidentified 6-year-old were taken to Othello Community Hospital with minor injuries, the state patrol reported.
