'Financial Peace' classes scheduled to start Jan. 4

Learn how to control your finances and get out of debt in 2011 by attending a 13-week program, Financial Peace University.

The program, created by Dave Ramsey, will be taught beginning at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 4 at South Hills Church, 3700 W. 27th Ave., in Kennewick.

The class also will be taught beginning at 5 p.m. Jan. 9 at the First Presbyterian Church, 2001 W. Kennewick Ave.

The program is made up of lessons taught by Ramsey on DVD in a fun and entertaining way. After each lesson the group meets to help each other plan budgets, discuss successes and temptations, and support each other in their journey to beat debt and build wealth. Topics covered include:

-- Saving for emergencies.

-- Budgeting.

-- Relationship and money issues.

-- Getting out of debt.

-- Understanding investments and insurance.

-- Retirement and college planning.

-- Real estate mortgages.

Each participant needs a kit, found online at www.dave ramsey.com. Kits usually cost $200 but are on sale now on the website for $119.

Included in the cost of the kit is a lifetime family membership to Financial Peace University that allows the participant to return to any class at any time for a refresher. The kit also includes a workbook, an expense envelope system, 13 audio lessons, bonus CD, budgeting forms, debit card holders, and Ramsey's book, Financial Peace.
