YAKIMA -- The body of a man believed to have accidentally fallen into the Roza Canal was found late Tuesday morning, authorities said.

An autopsy will be scheduled this week to confirm initial indications that Miguel Lopez Margarito, 23, of Lake Stevens, drowned, Yakima County Coroner Jack Hawkins said.

Sheriff's officials had been searching for him since early Monday morning. He left the Pomona View Mobile Park about midnight Sunday and apparently fell into the swiftly moving water while trying to go around an adjacent fence. The canal is within a quarter-mile of the mobile park, which is on Highway 821.

Lopez Margarito was found a little more than two miles downstream.

The Bureau of Reclamation had been lowering the water level in the canal to aid the search. Sheriff's Lt. Brian Winter said searchers spotted the body Tuesday morning after several passes along the bank.

Lopez Margarito, who was shoeless, had been drinking and making suicidal statements before he disappeared, authorities said.

He was living with a relative at the mobile park while looking for work.
