Gov. Gregoire appoints new Yakima judge

OLYMPIA -- Gov. Chris Gregoire is appointing a new judge to Yakima County Superior Court. Robert Lawrence-Berrey will replace Judge Michael Schwab, who is retiring at the end of the year.

Lawrence-Berrey has been in private practice in Yakima since 1990. His primary areas of practice have included agriculture, construction, insurance and commercial law. He earned his undergraduate degree from Whitman College and his law degree from Willamette University.

Gregoire announced the appointment in a statement Wednesday. Lawrence-Berrey takes over Jan. 11.
