Kennewick police won bragging rights for the year when they beat the Kennewick firefighters in the 5th annual charity basketball game this week.
The cops won 38-31 in the Tuesday game, but the real winners were the families who will benefit from the more than $6,500 raised, said Kennewick police Officer Isaac Merkl.
"The community really showed up ... and made a statement that they are willing to rally around their fellow citizen and ensure their needs are met," Merkl said.
The police and fire associations credit the help from businesses, volunteers and the community with making the game successful.

"It was a hard fought game and was close throughout, but in the end it's clear next year a firefighter will be standing at a busy intersection with a sandwich board," Merkl said.
