Energy Northwest will be testing emergency alert sirens one by one throughout December and January, in part to check recent system upgrades.
Each siren may be tested multiple times, and each test will be preceded and followed by an announcement confirming the siren activation is part of a test.
The sirens are along the Columbia and Yakima rivers.
They can be heard between the Vernita Bridge and Leslie Groves Park in north Richland; at the Horn Rapids Off-Road Vehicle Park; the firing range on Horn Road and the Horn Rapids housing development.
