Burbank, Pasco teachers eligible for tech grant

Teachers in Pasco and Burbank are eligible to apply for a $10,000 grant.

The grant program -- called Teachers and Technology -- is paid for by the Qwest Foundation and is only available in school districts where Qwest phone service is available. Around the Tri-Cities, that means teachers in the Pasco and Columbia school districts can apply.

The program is open to public school teachers or teacher-librarians who are certified to teach in Washington.

To apply, teachers need to design a learning project that includes a technology component. Applicants must work with the grant application forms found at www.k12.wa.us/EdTech.

A Pasco teacher, Shelly Jo Wandler at Discovery Middle School, won one of the grants in 2009. Her project integrated math, science and social studies, using GPS data to build a detailed map of the school campus.

Grant applications are due Feb. 15. Winners are announced March 29.
