WALLA WALLA -- Police patrols will be stepped up in school traffic zones in Walla Walla thanks to a partnership between the school district, city and county.
The increased patrols were organized after four students on their way to school were hit by cars and several near-misses were reported.
The school district is providing part of the funding for the Walla Walla Aggressive Drivers Response Team to conduct additional patrols in school zones.
Drivers will see more police officers on foot, in cars and on motorcycles in school zones at all 10 district schools.
Some officers will be working overtime during their off-duty hours to help provide additional focus on traffic enforcement in school zones.
