Two Sunnyside children who survived a rollover crash on Interstate 182 that killed their parents and cousin have been released from the hospital, while one girl still is recovering in Spokane after having surgery on a broken leg, family members said.
The girl is out of the intensive care unit at the Spokane hospital and family members are hoping she will be released by Friday.
The boys, 2 and 10, were released from Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland on Monday.
The children's parents, Bertha and Joel Barajas, and 10-year-old cousin, Cristian Valdez, were killed Sunday when their 2001 GMC Yukon rolled multiple times on the on-ramp to eastbound Interstate 82.
Washington State Patrol officials say alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the early-morning crash that went unnoticed in the dark for more than five hours.
The Barajas family is making funeral arrangements and waiting for the 8-year-old girl to return from the hospital.
A memorial account has been set up at the Bank of Whitman to help the family. Donations can be made at any branch to the Barajas Memorial Account, or mailed to the bank at 9715 Sandifur Parkway, Pasco, 99301.
