1 man injured, 1 charged in Othello area collision

A 56-year-old Mattawa man suffered a head injury Friday when the car in which he was riding on Highway 24 was struck by another car that had failed to yield for traffic.

Agustin Santos-Hernandez was taken to Othello Community Hospital for treatment after the 4:10 p.m. crash, which took place 31 miles west of Othello.

A hospital spokeswoman said Saturday that he was treated in Othello, then transferred to another medical facility. She couldn't disclose that location.

The Washington State Patrol reported that Miguel A. Cruz-Perez, 28, was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier north on McKinney Road when he turned west onto the highway in front of other cars.

The Chevrolet was then hit by an eastbound 1991 Nissan Stanza driven by Angelita Ramirez-Lopez, 43, of Othello. Both cars came to a stop in the roadway, the state patrol said.

Both Cruz-Perez of Mattawa and Ramirez-Lopez were not injured. Santos-Hernandez was a passenger in the Nissan. Everyone was reportedly wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The state patrol said Cruz-Perez will be charged for failure to yield.
