Walla Walla girl hit on bike slighly hurt

An eighth-grade student in Walla Walla was hit while riding her bike to school Wednesday morning.

The Garrison Middle School student was hit around 8 a.m. at the intersection of Third Avenue and Morton Street, said Walla Walla police Officer Tim Bennett.

The girl was heading west on Morton and failed to yield to a vehicle that was going south on Third Avenue, Bennett said.

The girl, who was wearing a helmet, was knocked onto the hood of the vehicle, but only slightly injured, he said.

She was taken to school after being examined by Walla Walla Fire Department paramedics.

Officials encourage parents to talk to their children about following all traffic laws while riding their bikes. Cyclists who violate traffic laws can be ticketed, Bennett said.
