PROSSER -- Next summer Prosser swimmers will be able to dive into a new pool facility that features two tanks, three slides and a new bathhouse.
Prosser City Council members this week approved spending about $2.7 million on a makeover for the city's 52-year-old pool, which is so riddled with leaks and disability access deficiencies it risks being shut down. This spring, city employees delayed opening the pool for about a week to patch up leaks.
City officials have been reviewing repair plans for more than a year and reached an agreement on a plan this week, said Cathleen Koch, the city's finance director.
The new facility will feature two separate pools -- a recreational beach-style pool and a lap pool -- a new bathhouse and three slides of various sizes.
The city plans to take construction bids in September, break ground in November and open by June 2011.
