KENNEWICK -- Fire danger in Benton County is high as temperatures continue to climb.
Benton County Fire District 1 officials warn that wildfires are likely and they remind county residents that outdoor burning is not permitted, except for legal recreational fires such as campfires and patio fire pits.
However, no fires are allowed on the Hanford Reach National Monument and other Mid-Columbia national wildlife refuges.
The ban covers cooking with charcoal briquettes and cooking stoves, smoking outside an enclosed vehicle and operation of a vehicle without an approved spark arrester.
