Garage sale will benefit nonprofit for Kenyan girls

BENTON CITY -- A Benton City garage sale on Saturday will benefit a local nonprofit that offers education and a safehouse to Kenyan girls.

The Voice of Hope group's yard sale is one of the many vendors participating in the city-wide yard sale on the same day. The yard sale will be one of the ones on the map the city puts out for the sale.

All the money from the Voice of Hope yard sale will pay for housing and feeding 17 Kenyan girls during their upcoming school break.

Voice of Hope, a nonprofit started by Kennewick resident Rachael Tengbom, aims to stop female genital mutilation by funding education for Kenyan girls and offering them a safe house.

The yard sale will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 704 Ninth St. in Benton City, inside the old Benton City movie theater.
