On this day: June 6, 1935

On a charge of issuing fictitious checks, Merle Jesmore was taken into custody. Everything was peaceful until he reached police headquarters, where he decided against entering the building and ran around the corner. Officer Gest pursued him, calling for him to halt. The man failed to heed the officer, or his threats to shoot, and even a few bullets had no effect. The officer had to run the man down, and Jesmore is now awaiting trial at the county seat.
