Map makers are trying to change the name of Jump off Joe Mountain to Communications Hill. But Kennewick pioneers won't have any part of it. The new name has made it s way onto several recent government maps, but old-timers say Jump Off Joe is here to stay. Stories about the origin of the name seem to come from a command to 'jump off' a mule or a bunk, and dates back to the 1880s.
