The most daring jailbreak ever perpetrated in Adams county occurred at Ritzville, when a prisoner escaped from the county bastile, leaving securely locked therein the county sheriff, J. C. Shorno. The deed was committed at supper time when the sheriff was taking the three county charges their evening meal. When Shorno set the meals on the table, the escaping prisoner stepped past him and turned the key in the lock.
