New video: See high-speed chase and shooting involving WA double-murder suspect on I-5

Newly released video shows a high-speed chase on Interstate 5 in April 2024 that ended the hunt for a Tri-Cities, Wash., double murder and kidnap suspect.

The Oregon State Police footage shows the frantic chase reaching speeds up to 110 mph and gunfire exchange with Elias Huizar, 39, a former Yakima police and school resource officer. Huizar, who had worked as a substitute teacher in Richland, was wanted for stabbing to death his girlfriend, Angelica Santos, and gunning down his ex-wife, Amber Rodriguez.

The chase ended with Huizar dying by suicide after he crashed during the chase with Oregon troopers.

The investigation of the death was handled by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, which determined that the shots fired at Huizar’s car earlier in the pursuit by Oregon troopers were justified.
