UPDATE: I-84 reopens from Pendleton to Idaho. Crashes 100 miles apart shut it down for hours
Both lanes of Interstate 84 were back open in Eastern Oregon just before 5 p.m. Sunday evening after being closed for hours by wintery road conditions.
The eastbound lanes of I-84 closed about 1 p.m. just east of Pendleton after several trucks spun out on the icy road.
The key east-west highway through Oregon closed about six miles east of Pendleton, said the Oregon state Department of Transportation.
And the westbound lanes had been closed at Baker City to all traffic since late Saturday night because of crashes, said ODOT.
The closure started in La Grande, but was moved to Baker City and Ontario near the Idaho border because of a lack of safe semi truck and trailer parking in La Grande and Baker City, said state officials.
Transportation officials reminded travelers that more mountain snow is expected this week. So, before traveling, check current highway conditions at TripCheck.com or call 511 or 800-977-6368.
Outside Oregon call 503-588-2941.
