Mattis to talk about leadership in times of crisis at online Tri-Cities meeting

Gen. Jim Mattis will be giving a Zoom talk to the Columbia Basin Badger Club this week about leadership during crisis.

The former U.S. Secretary of Defense will speak from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, June 18, at an online Columbia Basin Badger Club meeting.

People are asked to sign up online for the Zoom presentation at www.columbiabasinbadgers.com.

Mattis spent 40 years leading Marine Corps infantry, including leading combat commands in both Gulf Wars and in Afghanistan. He led the U.S. Central Command between 2010 and 2013 across the Middle East and south Asia before retiring.

“Many of us are being called upon to lead during this time of pandemic and economic crisis, whether it is at homes, our businesses, our institutions,” the club said.

Mattis recently denounced his former boss, President Donald Trump, for dividing the nation, particularly during recent Black Lives Matter protests.

Mattis will talk about what can be learned from the past lessons of leadership and the tools we can use to assess changing conditions and threats, the club said.
