The Tri-Cities Cancer Center recently treated its first patient using its new Edge Radiosurgery System from Varian.
The Kennewick center’s treatment machine is the second one installed on the west coast.
It targets tumors and abnormalities without cutting into the skin. “Its knife-like beam can target tumors of the brain, spine, lung and other areas that are typically difficult to treat surgically. It also offers the most sophisticated suite of tools to protect healthy tissue while targeting the cancerous tumor,” a news release said.
The treatments are fast and precise, it said.
“I am extremely excited about the new Varian Edge Radiosurgery System and the technology it brings to the Tri-Cities community,” said Dr. Juno Choe, from the cancer center, in the release.
Jeff Nelson of northeastern Oregon was the first patient treated with the Edge system.
