Police investigate product tampering in Harrisburg suburbs

Police are investigating medication and beauty products that apparently were tampered with before being returned and restocked on store shelves in the Harrisburg suburbs.

Cumberland County District Attorney Skip Ebert said Tuesday the investigation began on Aug. 2, when someone who had purchased toothpaste from a grocery store realized the packaging contained a different brand.

Ebert says forensic experts are working to identify substances seized when authorities searched a Mechanicsburg residence.

The prosecutor says the unnamed suspect purchased items from stores in Hampden and Silver Spring townships in the West Shore suburban area across the Susquehanna River from the state capital.

Ebert says there are no reports of people being sickened.

He's asking people to call Silver Spring Township Police if they believe they purchased tampered items.
