State regulators recently took action against nine residential moving companies that have been operating without permits in Washington, including a Kennewick company.
Fast Affordable Movers, owned by Steven Ronald Erickson of Kennewick, was fined $5,000, with $4,500 of the fine suspended for two years on the condition that the company complies with a Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission order.
An administrative law judge at the commission ordered Fast Affordable Movers to stop offering residential moving services illegally until the company obtains the necessary permit. Fast Affordable Movers has not applied or received a permit yet, state officials said Wednesday.
Before hiring a mover, resident should call the commission at 1-888-333-9882 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday to verify the mover's permit status and complaint history, according to a news release.
