PROSSER -- If you need one really outstanding side table, cheese and other goodies for a picnic or a quick gift, head for Prosser's newest home decor and gift shop. Its name is Pizzazz!
"That's what I've stocked it with," said owner Candace Andrews of Prosser.
"I'm carrying lines you won't find in the Tri-Cities and Yakima. Two of my hand-crafted furniture lines are Sticks out of the Midwest and David Marsh out of Texas," she said.
Andrews found these two furniture makers accidentally while shopping out of town.
"When I contacted them, both were excited because they've been wanting to find shops in our area," she said.
The shop is in historic downtown Prosser, at 1110 Meade Ave. It opens at 10 a.m. today, with the ribbon-cutting at11 a.m.
"My shop is easy to spot. Just look for the door handpainted with a big, colorful bouquet of flowers," she said.
Andrews worked in the city of Richland's public information office for 20 years, retiring June 15. She doesn't have any retail experience but opening a shop has long been a dream of hers.
"I've thought about this for a long time. I live in Prosser and have been commuting for years. When I retired, I just jumped into it with both feet," she said.
"I'm personally excited to be in downtown Prosser and feel my shop will complement the stores and businesses already here and help draw additional people to our shopping district," she said.
In addition to gift items and decor, Andrews also will carry a selection of specialty foods, including cheeses from Cheese Louise in Richland, and offer bikes for rent.
